"Once Upon a Family" started as a conversation I kept having with myself. About what it means to be a mother, a daughter, a wife — in a world that constantly asks African women to choose between their heritage and their ambitions.
I wanted to make a film that showed African families in their full complexity — not as stereotypes, not as struggles, but as real, layered, beautiful human beings navigating love, loss, and legacy.
Bringing Mercy Johnson on board was a dream come true. Her ability to embody the emotional truth of a character is unmatched, and she brought dimensions to the story I had not even imagined.
Seeing the film nominated for the Golden Movie Awards and the Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards — and then watching it reach global audiences on Amazon Prime and Tubi — was one of the most surreal and gratifying moments of my career. This is just the beginning.
